How We Met
(Peter's Version)
On a regular basis I held parties at my home in Gray in Palmerston NT. Not for any other reason than for good friends to get together, have a few drinks, have a laugh and maybe a few more drinks.
We'd often just sit around the poolside talking about what had happened to us through the week and listening to music.
One friend of mine, Corina, could see that the relationship (if you could call it that) that I was in at the time, was not doing me any good and she decided that it was about time to introduce me to Jacqui.
Jacqui was a child care worker and had been doing occasional care for Corina's children.
So Jacqui came over on one of these party nights. We talked, swam and joked together. I think the first thing that originally attracted me to her was her laugh. It was just so natural and genuine that you just had to sit up and take notice. Apart from that she is a beautiful woman and has a wonderful sense of humour.
Little did I know then, how much this woman would change my life...
How We Met (Jacqui's Version)
I had organised to go to a Friends house, Corina, for dinner, as I was missing my mother who had moved away earlier that week, and wanted some quality time with special friends. I was supposed to be there at 7pm when at 6:45 I rang her to say, I was on my way but would be an extra half hour. She told me that she was at the police station, and had been at a friends house all day, so she had organised a friend to meet me at her house and I would follow them to the 'party'.
I got to her house and followed her friend (Wayne) to the friends house (Peter).
I sat down and relaxed, got introduced to everyone, and we swapped vague hello's. Peter was much too busy entertaining guests, saving his son from Gray Supermarket thugs, and taking the 2nd trip up to the police station in as many hours.
Later that night as we all climbed into the pool (7 kids aged 6 - 15 and 7 adults) and Peter relaxed enough to come and sit with us. The first thing I noticed about him, was how beautifully he spoke to me, with a respect I hadn't been given before.
Little did I know I was speaking to the man who was my perfect other half, but I did know.... a little.
Our Engagement Story
(Peter's Version)
From the first time I met Jacqui, I knew that there was something very special about her. Within a month from our first meeting we were dating.
Then less than a week after our first kiss ... I proposed to her. Sadly I was unable to see her facial expression as we were talking on the phone as she had just flown to Canberra for family reasons. That was in November 2001, seven months later we were married.
Our Engagement Story (Jacqui's Version)
I rang Peter a couple of weeks later to invite him out, but although "he would have loved to go" he had guests, so I didn't ring again. We met up another 2 weeks after that, as I was on my mid class break, and sat and talked avidly for the whole 30 minutes. I rang him again on the Friday and invited myself over to have a swim. While I was there, we organised for him to come over and we'd watch Star Trek on my new video and TV that Saturday. But when I saw him on the Thursday, he was having major problem with the 'relationship' and told me he wasn't coming over because she wanted to go out and he had to baby-sit. Luckily he was let off the hook, and that Saturday we had a great time, ending with an amazing kiss. I had to race down to Canberra to attend a funeral on Wednesday after and Peter proposed 1am Friday morning (12am Darwin time). We racked up close to in SMS's alone in the next 5 days.
